Energy cost grant

Energy cost subsidy 2, for the period from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023, has already been approved by the government.
The subsidy intensity here has increased from 30 to 60 percent in stage 1 and from 30 to 50 percent in stage 2.
As a result of the continuing rapid rise in the cost of fuel, electricity and natural gas, energy-intensive companies in particular are having great difficulty keeping up with prices. As a measure to cushion rising energy costs, the AWS energy cost subsidy is being introduced. This support is intended to help companies and commercial associations cushion the price increase and maintain their competitiveness.
Who is eligible?
All companies with annual energy costs of at least 3% of sales or production value. Companies with a maximum annual turnover of € 700,000 are exempt from this criterion.
Not eligible are energy-producing and mineral-processing companies or primary agricultural and forestry production, companies from the banking and financing sector, and government units.
What is promoted?
This is a grant to counteract the additional energy costs in the period 01.02.2023 to 31.12.2023.
How much is the grant?
The subsidy depends on the entitlement level!
- Stage 1 Funding:
- Prerequisite: General eligibility
- 60 % of the price difference of the energy costs compared to the previous year
- € 2,000 (max. € 400,000)
- Stage 2 Funding:
- Prerequisite: At least doubling of energy prices compared to the previous year
- 70% of the energy costs consumed in the previous year are subsidized with a maximum of 50%.
- Subsidy € 2 mio.
- Stage 3 Funding:
- Prerequisite: Proven “operating loss
- Grant € 25 mio.
- Stage 4 Funding:
- Only for selected industries, e.g. steel, cement, glass
- Subsidy € 50 m
