Lab2Fab Semiconductor – Strengthens the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry

Lab2Fab Semiconductor focuses on internationally active companies that are technology leaders or are on their way to achieving this position.


What is funded?

The aim of the programme is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Austrian semiconductor industry. The programme is aimed at the entire semiconductor industry, including related areas. Continuous financing of complex research and transition projects up to industrial implementation is possible. A total of € 12 million is available in the call for proposals. The FFG covers the research and development phase with € 6 million, the aws covers higher TRL levels and the implementation phase with € 6 million.

The following basic requirements apply:

  • Allocation of the project to the semiconductor industry incl. related areas
  • High economic risk of the project is positively assessed
  • High technical risk
  • High innovation content and benefit of the development
  • Offensive technology strategy
  • Clear, positive impact on the semiconductor industry
  • Clear, positive impact on the associated value network in Europe
  • In line with the EU Chips Act

Who is funded?

SMEs and large companies can apply for funding. The entire value network qualifies. The only decisive factor for eligibility is the thematic assignment of the project to the semiconductor industry including adjacent areas.


How and how much is funded?

Funding is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant in accordance with the following articles of the AGVOG (Art. 14, 17 to 20 and 25 to 30) or in accordance with De-Minimis with a maximum grant amount of 200,000 EUR. The grant per project application is up to EUR 1 million. The funding rate is a maximum of 25% of project costs for large enterprises, 35% for medium-sized enterprises and 45% for small enterprises.

Costs and projects that have started before the application is submitted are not eligible for funding.
